Step Out on Faith

Step Out on Faith

The Word:
Now the Lord told Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house and go to the land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1 (NASB)

The Story:
Right now I am in one of the most difficult seasons of my life. Last summer, my wife’s job transferred our family to Dallas, TX. I had to leave everything– my family, friends, my job, and my ministry. I gave up everything, my entire life! In North Carolina, I was the big fish in the sea. I was a business man, coach, pastor, teacher, police officer and well known in the community.  Now I feel alone. I have no friends, no one to talk to or just play basketball with. As a Washington Redskin fan, I am definitely in a land unknown. I had to start over–find a new job, and start my ministry all over.  Although I have no clear vision of what God has for me and my family here, I trust that what he has for me here is good!

The Reflection:
Is there anything that is keeping us from listening to God’s desires for our lives?  Are we living lives of faith? What or whom is God calling us to leave behind to serve Him? Are we asking the Holy Spirit to fill us with knowledge, comfort, peace, and courage so like Abraham, we will take the next step of faith, although we can’t see where God is leading us?

The Application:
Abraham’s life is an example of a godly man who stepped out on faith and trusted God. Abraham was obedient in all he did and God blessed him beyond measure. As we reflect over Abraham’s life, let us decide to take steps of faith in obedience to God even when it’s uncomfortable.

The Prayer:
Dear Lord, let our only desire be to please You by doing Your will. Help us to trust You, and although it doesn’t always feel good, allow us to be open to all things that You have for us. Provide clarity and vision for our lives and convict us of those things that are not in Your will.   Help us to die to our own desires. Amen.
